Duties & Responsibilities
- Nurses are required to adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct established by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, in addition to following Professional Clinical Guidelines.
- Operate within the limits of their professional scope, consistently work towards enhancing and upholding a superior level of professional conduct, and hold themselves responsible for their actions and performance.
- Take charge of and oversee the management of the ward section when the CNM I/CNM II is unavailable.
- Engage actively in anaesthetics, scrub, circulating, PACU, or endoscopy room responsibilities as necessary.
- Assume the role of mentor or buddy when asked, and assist in guiding the orientation and growth of new staff members.
Scrub / Circulating
- Administer nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.
- Assist consultant surgeons during all surgical interventions.
- Uphold nursing care standards in pre-operative and post-operative phases, including planning, execution, and patient care.
- Recognize the diverse needs of theatre patients and provide comprehensive support to both patients and their families.
- Prepare the operating room for all scheduled elective procedures.
- Adhere to aseptic technique principles, including surgical scrub, instrument setup, gowning, and gloving for each procedure.
- Maintain accurate records of controlled drugs in accordance with legal and professional standards.
- Follow proper counting procedures throughout the patient's stay in the operating room.
- Oversee the nursing practice of junior team members and contribute to their educational development.
