Currently employing 140 staff across two Cork facilities, they are now seeking a Mechanical R&D Engineer to join their expanding Research & Development team at their Little Island plant.
Your New Role – Mechanical R&D Engineer
As a key member of the R&D department, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and testing next-generation cooling solutions for data centers. Reporting to the R&D Director, this position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge innovation while collaborating with a cross-functional team. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop innovative cooling solutions for data centers, leveraging your expertise in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
- Support production and implementation phases by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance.
- Participate in design reviews, ensuring that solutions meet both performance and sustainability requirements.
- Work closely with the R&D lab team to perform performance testing and validation on prototypes, documenting results and refining designs accordingly.
- Assist with prototype builds to gain hands-on insights into design effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

What We’re Looking For
To excel in this role, you should have:
- A third-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within an OEM environment.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and other relevant design software.
- A solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
- Experience working with HVAC components and systems.
- Hands-on experience with prototype development, testing methodologies, and data analysis.
- Knowledge of sheet metal, piping systems, and process cooling water systems design.
