My client, a leading medical device manufacturer, based in North Dublin is in need of a Purchasing Engineer to join their existing procurement team

This is an excellent career for an Engineer who has experience with Purchasing within their role and is looking for a new challenge. The desired Purchasing Engineer would have experience working within Industrial Manufacturing or the Automotive Manufacturing Industry. The duties for the Purchasing Engineer will include but are not limited to:

  • Working within a dynamic engineering change environment, actively supporting New Product Introductions and engineering design change activities to ensure optimization in terms of part design/manufacturing technology/supplier selection decisions.
  • Promoting the use of supplier innovation and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DfMA ) into product designs through Early Supplier Involvement (ESI).
  • Overseeing RfQ competitive exercises to identify lowest Total Cost of Ownership (ToCO) sources to achieve the target costs for materials and products, based on defined commodity strategies.
  • Implement supplier changes to reduce risk and costs, improve performance and optimize part/supplier sourcing on a global basis .

The requirements for the desired Purchasing Engineer include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related Science discipline (QQI level 8). Consideration may be given to individuals with a Business, Procurement or Supply Chain degree with extensive relevant technical experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience within a Procurement/Technical capacity, preferably within an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment. Manufacturing engineering experience an advantage.
  • Understanding of best practices in ESI, DfMA, DtC, VE and Engineering Change management
  • Established commercial mind-set with the ability to assess, negotiate and conclude business decisions and agreements with suppliers
  • Team player, capable of building strong and influential relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Good working knowledge of Procurement tools, processes, methods and reports.
  • Planning and analytical skills, ability to collate and analyse data for decision making.
  • Problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Capable of negotiating with and influencing suppliers to deliver business results.
  • Excellent oral communications, business writing skills and presentation skills.
