Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing multinational manufacturing company based in Cork. With over 25 years of success in Ireland, they specialize in producing cutting-edge, environmentally sustainable cooling solutions for global tech giants, including companies with large-scale data centers like Meta. Renowned for their reliability, quality, and exceptional aftercare service, they support mission-critical applications for blue-chip multinational tech firms worldwide.

Currently employing 140 staff across two Cork facilities, they are now seeking a Lab Manager to lead their Research & Development (R&D) testing team at their Little Island plant.


Your New Role – Lab Manager

As Lab Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design, setup, and execution of performance and functional testing for advanced cooling solutions used in data centers. You will lead a team of lab technicians, ensuring the highest standards in testing procedures and reporting. This role is perfect for an experienced HVAC professional looking to apply their expertise in a cutting-edge R&D environment while contributing to the advancement of sustainable cooling technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations and personnel management to maintain an efficient, high-performing testing environment.

  • Manage lab equipment maintenance, including chillers, boilers, generators, electrical, and control systems.

  • Develop and execute test plans for HVAC systems, chilled water systems, refrigeration, fans, and electrical components.

  • Organize and prioritize lab schedules to meet project deadlines and customer testing requirements.

  • Generate and present high-quality, detailed reports based on test data, providing critical insights to the engineering teams.

  • Collaborate closely with design, applications, and electrical engineering teams to align testing with product development goals.

  • Ensure all laboratory instruments are properly calibrated and maintained, working alongside the Quality Manager.

  • Manage maintenance contracts and support ongoing improvements in testing procedures and lab infrastructure.

What We’re Looking For

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A third-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC testing and mechanical system evaluation.

  • Strong hands-on experience working with generators, chillers, boilers, refrigeration, and chilled water systems.

  • Expertise in HVAC test equipment, including air volume measurements, power measurements, and water flow analysis.

  • A passion for innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement in HVAC system performance testing.
