Leading Construction Firm Seeks Financial Controller for Key Strategic Role

Wicklow, Ireland – A well-established construction company is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance team and drive strategic financial growth. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to manage financial operations, oversee compliance, and play a key part in shaping the company’s long-term financial strategy.

The position is based in Wicklow, with a hybrid working model available after an initial six-month period, allowing for three days on-site and two days working from home. Due to the company’s location, candidates must have their own transport.

A Strategic Leadership Opportunity
The successful candidate will report directly to the Finance Director, partnering closely on financial planning, budgeting, and performance optimisation. Managing a team of four, the Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency of financial operations, overseeing multi-currency and multi-jurisdictional transactions, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the finance team, ensuring strong performance and continuous improvement.
  • Managing payroll, supplier, and subcontractor financial functions.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
  • Ensuring VAT, tax, and other regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Developing budgets and cashflow forecasts, both short and long-term.
  • Supporting external audits and liaising with tax advisors.
  • Collaborating with the commercial department to ensure accurate project cost estimations.
  • Streamlining financial processes to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience
The company is looking for a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with at least three years of post-qualification experience. A minimum of five years in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry, is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of European accounting principles, currency transfers, and multi-jurisdictional finance.

The ideal candidate will have a commercially driven mindset, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to mentor and develop teams. Proficiency in financial software, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Why This Role Stands Out
This opportunity offers more than just financial oversight—it is a strategic leadership role within a growing organisation. The successful candidate will have the chance to implement improvements, influence decision-making, and play a crucial part in the company’s continued expansion.

The company offers a structured hybrid work model, competitive salary, and the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

If you are a driven financial controller with a passion for leading teams and delivering impactful financial strategies, we would love to hear from you. Apply today with your most recent CV to Bernadette Sisson for immediate consideration.
