My client, a leading medical device manufacturer, based in North Dublin is in need of a Commodity Buyer to join their existing procurement team

The Commodity Buyer will be responsible for developing and managing the supplier base to support growing demand, ensuring that quality, cost, and delivery targets are consistently met. Acting as a focal point between sourcing, manufacturing operations, quality, and engineering, you will lead cross-functional projects that align procurement strategies with business objectives. This position involves global coordination, working closely with the Company commodity management to pool demand, negotiate prices, and implement global commodity strategies.
The duties for the Commodity Buyer will include but are not limited to:
- Supplier Development & Management: Develop and maintain a robust supplier base to meet the needs of company manufacturing sites in Ireland and with Global Sites
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the main point of contact between sourcing, manufacturing operations, quality, and engineering. Lead and drive cross-functional projects to ensure procurement objectives are met.
- Supplier Performance: Perform end-to-end supplier management, ensuring delivery, quality, and cost targets are achieved both today and in the future.
- Commodity Management: Collaborate with global Company commodity management to align on demand pooling, price negotiations, and overall global commodity strategies.
- Negotiation: Lead price negotiations, terms of contract, and secure the best value while maintaining quality and delivery timelines.
- Continuous Improvement: Perform capacity, process, and capability assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
The requirements for the desired Commodity Buyer include:
- Batchelor ’s degree in Business, Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline (QQI level 8).
- 8+ years of direct logistics and/or procurement experience.
- Empowered leadership style, providing support, recognition and opportunity for growth.
- Instrumental in delivering direct coaching to develop individuals and teams and developing succession planning roadmaps and a talent pipeline.
- Ability to interact with and influence suppliers at a senior management level, to manage escalations.
- Established commercial mind-set with the ability to assess and conclude business decisions with suppliers
- Team player, capable of building strong and influential relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Good working knowledge of Procurement tools, processes, methods and reports.
- Planning and analytical skills, ability to collate and analyse data for decision making.
- Problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Capable of negotiating with and influencing suppliers to deliver business results.
- Excellent oral communications, business writing skills and presentation skills.
